Every Apple-silicon Mac (M1 and newer) is fast for everyday work. The main differences are screen size, weight, ports and how much power you need for heavy jobs like video, photo or coding.

Good to know
- Chips: M1 → M2 → M3 → M4 → M5 – each generation is faster and more efficient. ‘Pro’ and ‘Max’ chips add more power for heavy work.
- RAM: 8GB is fine for browsing and documents; 16GB is the sweet spot for most people; 32GB+ for pro video, 3D or big coding projects.
- Storage can’t be upgraded later on Apple-silicon Macs, so choose enough for your files (or use iCloud / an external drive).
- Intel MacBooks (2020 and older) are budget options; Apple-silicon models run cooler and have much longer battery life.
