Returns, refunds & warranty

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Techsite is a trading name of AB Communication & Repair Ltd, 6 Queen Street, Papakura, Auckland 2110. This page explains how change-of-mind returns, refunds, exchanges and our warranty work. It sits alongside your rights under New Zealand law, which it never limits.

Need help? Call or text 022 154 0011 or email support@techsite.co.nz – Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm (closed weekends and public holidays). Please contact us before sending anything back.

At a glance

  • 30-day change-of-mind returns on eligible items, counted from the day you receive your order.
  • 12-month Techsite warranty on every pre-owned and refurbished device, from the day you receive it.
  • Faulty under warranty? We pay the shipping both ways.
  • Brand-new devices carry the manufacturer's warranty, and every purchase is covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.

1. 30-day change-of-mind returns and exchanges

New Zealand law doesn't require shops to take back items you've simply changed your mind about – this is our own promise to you. Let us know within 30 days of receiving your order. To qualify, the item must:

  • be in the same condition you received it, with no new marks, damage, wear or changes;
  • come back with everything it came with – box, cables, accessories, free gifts and paperwork;
  • be signed out of all accounts (Apple ID / iCloud and Find My, Google, Samsung), with passcodes and activation locks removed;
  • come with proof of purchase (see section 9).

We check every return when it arrives. If it doesn't meet these conditions, we'll contact you to talk through the options before doing anything else.

Exchanges: you can swap for another item instead of a refund, subject to stock. If the price is different, we'll tell you the difference before going ahead.

2. Brand-new sealed products

Brand-new items in sealed packaging can be returned for change of mind only if the seal is unbroken. Once the packaging has been opened, a change-of-mind return isn't available – but this never affects your rights if the item is faulty or not as described.

3. Change-of-mind return shipping

For change-of-mind returns, you arrange and pay for the return postage. Please use a tracked service and pack the item securely – we can't be responsible for items lost or damaged on the way back to us because of poor packaging.

4. Refunds

  • We refund once we've received and checked the returned item.
  • Refunds go back to your original payment method. Your bank or payment provider may take a few working days to show it.
  • Your original delivery charge is refunded if the item was faulty, damaged or not as described.

5. 12-month Techsite warranty

Every pre-owned and refurbished device we sell comes with a 12-month Techsite warranty from the day you receive it, unless the listing clearly says otherwise. If the device develops a fault in normal use during that time, we'll assess it and repair, replace or refund it. Brand-new devices are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and we'll help you with any claim.

Our warranty is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, which can last longer than 12 months if a product should reasonably last longer.

6. How to make a warranty claim

  1. Call or text 022 154 0011 or email support@techsite.co.nz.
  2. Tell us your order number (or other proof of purchase), what the fault is, when it started, and anything you've already tried. Photos or a short video help a lot.
  3. We may ask you to try a few troubleshooting steps first – many problems can be fixed without sending the device anywhere.
  4. If it needs to come back, we'll approve the return and send you a prepaid, tracked return label. Please don't send anything until we've approved it.
  5. Customers near Papakura can drop off an approved return at 6 Queen Street – please call first to arrange a time.

7. Warranty shipping costs

  • Covered fault (under our warranty or the Consumer Guarantees Act): we pay the shipping both ways.
  • No fault found, or the damage isn't covered (for example a drop, cracked glass or liquid): you may need to pay the return shipping and any assessment fee we've told you about before you send the device.

8. Assessment and outcome

We aim to assess and resolve most approved claims within 5–7 business days of receiving the device. Sometimes it takes longer – for example if parts are needed, the fault is hard to find, or replacement stock has to arrive – and we'll keep you updated. Depending on the problem, we'll repair, replace or refund the device, as the Consumer Guarantees Act sets out.

9. Proof of purchase

Any of these is fine: your Techsite invoice or receipt, the order confirmation email, a bank or card statement showing the purchase, or other details that let us find your order.

10. What the warranty doesn't cover

  • accidental or physical damage after delivery, such as drops, dents, cracked screens or glass;
  • liquid or moisture damage;
  • misuse, neglect or not following reasonable care instructions;
  • repairs or changes by anyone other than Techsite that caused or contributed to the fault;
  • damage from unsuitable chargers, cables, power supplies or accessories;
  • software changes such as jailbreaking or rooting;
  • loss, theft or deliberate damage, or an account lock added after the sale;
  • normal cosmetic wear consistent with the condition grade described when you bought it;
  • the gradual loss of battery capacity that comes with normal use and age. A battery that fails is covered.

Normal signs of previous use don't on their own mean a claim is declined – we look at each claim fairly, considering the fault, the device's age, price and condition. These exclusions never limit your Consumer Guarantees Act rights, which also apply to second-hand goods.

11. Getting your device ready to send

  • Back up your data – testing or repair may need the device to be reset, and we can't guarantee your data will be kept.
  • Sign out of your accounts and turn off Find My (or the Samsung / Google equivalent).
  • Remove passcodes, activation locks, SIM cards and memory cards.
  • Only include the accessories we ask for, and pack the device securely.

For a faulty item you don't need the original box – just pack it well, ideally in a sturdy box with padding.

12. Damaged in delivery

If your order arrives damaged, contact us as soon as you can – ideally within 48 hours of delivery, so we can investigate with the courier quickly. This is a request, not a deadline, and it doesn't limit your rights. Please send:

  • your order number;
  • photos of the outer box and courier label, and of the inside packaging;
  • clear photos or a video of the damage.

Keep the item and all the packaging until we've reviewed it.

13. Your rights under New Zealand law

Nothing in this policy removes or limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other New Zealand law. Read our plain-English summary: Consumer Guarantees Act – your rights.
