Consumer Guarantees Act – your rights

When you buy from us as a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA) protects you. This is a short summary; the full rules are at consumerprotection.govt.nz.

What the law guarantees

  • Acceptable quality – the device works as it should, is safe and lasts a reasonable time. For pre-owned devices this takes into account the age, price and condition described when you bought it.
  • Fit for purpose – including any particular purpose you told us about before buying.
  • Matches its description – the model, storage, colour and condition grade shown on the listing.

If something goes wrong

  • A problem that can be fixed: we can choose to repair it, replace it or refund you. If we don’t fix it within a reasonable time, you can have it fixed elsewhere and claim the reasonable cost from us, or reject the item.
  • A serious problem (a “failure of substantial character”): you can choose to reject the item and get a refund or a replacement, or keep it and get compensation for its drop in value.

What the CGA doesn’t cover

  • Changing your mind – though we offer a 14-day change-of-mind return.
  • Faults or marks we told you about before you bought, such as the condition grade.
  • Damage caused by misuse or an accident after you received the device.

If you buy for a business, different rules may apply.

To make a claim, email support@techsite.co.nz with your order number. Our 6-month warranty on pre-owned devices is in addition to these rights – see Returns, refunds & warranty.
